Who am I?
My name is Ruth Rasmussen and I am 42 years old. I have 2 beautiful girls aged 12 and 14 who both go to school. You can see my youngest in the picture on the right.
I have chosen to become a private babysitter because children have always been a big part of my life and I love being around children. So now that my own have grown, it's great to have little feet on the floor again.
I am very creative and in addition to knitting, crocheting and sewing, I really like making gifts and cards. I am a major customer of Panduro. Therefore, it is very natural for me to do creative things with the children, e.g. for Christmas and Easter.
I also love to cook and bake, so we usually eat home baked goods at my place.
My pedagogical approach
I thought that children are the most important thing we have and that it is important that we give them a good start in life. Therefore, I think that a private care arrangement is the best choice, as here they get presence, care, security and love in a more personal setting, where they are seen, heard and recognized. There are 4 children plus me, so we get to know each other really well and that gives peace in the group.
I prioritize a calm and pleasant everyday life, with the children in focus. We will spend a lot of time with other babysitters. We will go on trips, on playgrounds, parks, make rhythms, go to the playroom, play together at each other's houses and go to church for hymn singing/rhythms.
As a self-employed person, I am the one who plans the daily life, makes learning plans and is responsible for the little ones, and I take that very seriously. I make sure that over the course of the year on weekdays we get around the 6 themes in the educational curriculum:
- Versatile, personal development
- Social development
- Communication and language
- Body, senses and movement
- Nature, outdoor life and sciences
- Culture, aesthetics and community
I have also taken a first aid course for children, which is renewed every two years. It is a priority for me that we eat organically, as I do with my own children, so I aim for as much as possible of our food to be organic . I'm also against too much sugar, so we rarely get sweet things in connection with special events (Christmas, birthdays etc), but basically we get sweet things in the form of fruit and berries in everyday life.
The facility
Little Explorers is based in a lovely area close to Amager strandpark. It is a cooperative apartment with a wonderful farm environment with plenty of space. There are playgrounds, lawns, football cages, etc. and the opportunity to ride bicycles and other toys with wheels. In the apartment, there is also plenty of space to unfold in play, dance and creative activities.
There are no pets or carpets and I maintain a strict no smoking policy with my guests so the environment is very hypoallergenic.
